Aeroplan Members returning from their Mediterranean and Italian Trip closer than Ever

TORONTO, ONT.: Oct. 16, 2015 -- When Warren Takimoto and his boyfriend, Christopher Lavoie, planned their trip to Italy and Greece, they’d been planning it for months. Little did Takimoto know that part of Lavoi's plans was to propose to him in Santorini, Greece. They went to the Mediterranean together, but they returned closer than ever. When Warren and his boyfriend Kristopher went to Italy and Greece, they’d been planning their trip for months. Little did Warren know that part of his boyfriend’s plans was to propose to him in Fira, Santorini. They went to the Mediterranean together, and they returned closer than ever.

Where you travelled: We visited Santorini, Greece, then Florence, Rome, and Naples in Italy. We also took a tour of Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast.

Why that trip was special: We had planned this trip for well over a year. We both enjoy travelling, and we’d been to Europe separately before, but we wanted to go together this time, and share new experiences.

The memory you cherish most: After Kristopher proposed to me, we silently watched the sunset over the Adriatic Sea. It couldn’t have been more picturesque, sitting on the cliffs of Fira watching the boats sail by. I spent that time thinking about how I was going to spend the rest of my life with my fiancé, and reflecting on the moment.

The souvenir you brought home: In Florence, we found matching rings that we loved. Now we can say that we bought our engagement rings on the Ponte Vecchio.

Your favourite site on the trip and why: In Naples, we took a tour to Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. It was amazing to see the technology Pompeii had over 2,000 years ago. They were advanced enough to have their own version of a sewage system, and carts that could be rented when visitors came to the city. The Amalfi Coast was breathtaking. I understand why so many celebrities want to own houses there.

Your favourite meal on the trip and why: We had the most amazing pasta and pizza at a small restaurant in Rome’s Trastevere neighbourhood. The narrow cobblestone streets were filled with locals and tourists; restaurants littered both sides of the street. I think this meal was my favourite because we had both dressed up, and spent the evening people-watching and enjoying each other’s company.

When your friends go to Greece and Italy, you always recommend: The food. You can find delicious and affordable food on any street. I would also recommend walking everywhere instead of taking public transportation or a taxi. It’s the best way to explore a city.

Where you’re going to next and why: High on our list is Croatia. All the pictures look amazing. I also would love to see Turkey.
