Showcasing the world with Landscape Photography

Landscape photography showcases different spaces from around the world.  Kevin is an Aeroplan Employee and an avid landscape photographer.  With a background in graphic design and communications he has always been a visual person.  Last year he became more serious about his hobby and dove into the complexities of taking great pictures at home and abroad. Aeroplan: Why landscape photography? Kevin: When you travel to different places, you get to see and experience some amazing things. For me, great photography isn’t only about telling a story, it’s about being able to capture and convey the entire experience. Not only about what is seen, but what is felt at that very moment in time. With landscape photography, you often find yourself looking out onto expansive vistas just waiting for the perfect moment. There is nothing more relaxing than being in a quiet place, just taking your time and enjoying the moment.

Aeroplan: Tell me about your favourite shot. Kevin: My first successful sunset picture is my current favourite. Having just gotten back into photography, I tried a couple of times to get a good sunset. It sounds like it would be easy, but it isn’t. The most important part is that you have to have the right composition. I traveled around to few places before I found this location. You also have to have the right clouds. Overcast, or even cloudless skies, really don’t help to carry the color throughout the image. The one thing I have to say about this shot, is that it was extremely cold and windy that day. As soon as the sun went down, I was gone. Aeroplan: What kind of camera do you use? Kevin: I use a Canon Rebel t1i, a digital SLR camera that is part of the Canon Rebel series .  It’s a great starter camera that lets you to get into the complexities of photography without a high price tag.

Aeroplan: Who are your favourite photographers? Who inspires you? Kevin: There are two who immediately come to mind. The first is Liew Weng Keong, a great photographer from Malaysia. He has some phenomenal shots from a part of the world I would love to visit. The second is a photographer in New York state called Robert Rodriguez Jr. He spends a lot of time hiking in and around the state, and gets some spectacular landscape shots. Essentially, I admire photographers who seek out new experiences and explore new locations in their attempts to get the best shot. Kevin currently blogs about his photography and his experiences here. Canon Digital SLR’s, similar to what Kevin uses, can be purchased at Costco.ca, a participating partner of the Great Aeroplan Round Up meaning you get 2X the miles when you purchase your camera by May 15, 2011!  When you shop at 3 or more Great Aeroplan Round Up Partners, you will receive at 15% discount to use at Air Canada.
