On September 4th, Aeroplan took to the streets of downtown Toronto for Departure Day and the launch of Distinction. Every five minutes from 12-1 Aeroplan was giving away a trip to exciting destinations.
Participants who stopped by also had the chance to visit the Distinction photo booth, take their picture and see their photos which were larger than life on the Dundas Square digital boards!
During the late morning we saw an increasing number of people stop by Dundas Square to check out what was going on. A line quickly formed for the Photo Booth where people eagerly awaited to have their photo taken in front of a green screen. Once the image was snapped, the excitement was evident as they peered up at one of the many electronic billboards to see their picture which was displayed for everyone to see.
When people weren’t busy gazing up, they had the opportunity to engage with a small army dressed in white Distinction jackets. These representatives were happy to help explain the event, as well as the new enhancements to the Aeroplan Program.
Dundas square really started to buzz as registration opened at 11AM for the Departure Day contest. The excitement and optimism for the chance to win one of 13 trips made for an upbeat atmosphere among everyone in attendance. Right up until the first draw people flocked to representatives holding iPads to register; others scanned QR codes on their smartphones and were ready to go.
Once registered, people turned to the electronic billboards once more as they watched the digital screens mimicking an airport departure board where names and cities that people had selected were scrolling through the multitude of selections.
At noon the first winner was drawn and their name lit up Dundas Square along with their selected city. The contest was now underway and the crowds excitement could be felt as even more onlookers gathered close to one another, peering up and waiting for the next name to be drawn.
Every 5 minutes the crowd eagerly awaited the next name, applause thundered through the square as each name was announced. As a member from the crowd was lucky enough to win her trip, people looked on with wide grins as the winner was brought up on stage. A hearty round of applause for the winner was in order as she stood there explaining her selection and who she planned to bring. Moments later, as the last name was drawn and the contest was officially over people left Dundas Square. However, many stayed a while longer to take their picture and be able to peer up once more at the giant billboards flashing their faces in front of their favorite city.
