Telephone scam

Canadians are reporting an automated telephone call scam that claims to offer between “10,000 and 100,000 reward miles” in an effort to obtain personal credit card details.

This is how the scam works: An automated telephone message encourages callers to press the number “1” to accept the prize. They are subsequently connected to a live operator who asks for credit card information and other personal details.

This is not part of an Aeroplan promotion or contest. We do not use automated telephone calls to notify winners of Aeroplan Miles.

If you receive this type of call, please do not provide any credit card information or other personal information – and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) at 1.888.495.8501.

If you have already received a call and mistakenly provided your credit card information, you should immediately contact your financial card issuer to cancel your credit card and report the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre (CAFC) at 1.888.495.8501.

E-mail scam

Currently, there is also a phishing scam affecting persons worldwide. The aim? To obtain Aeroplan Numbers and Passwords.

If you receive an e-mail claiming to be from Air Canada or Aeroplan that you believe to be fraudulent, do not respond and do not click on any links or open attachments contained within the e-mail.

You should: Notify Aeroplan by calling 1-800-361-5373 and delete the e-mail afterwards.

Report suspicious e-mail scams to the RCMP Canadian Anti-Fraud Call Centre at 1-888-495-8501 and/or e-mail them at

Please note: If you delete the e-mail without clicking on any links, there is no risk to your Aeroplan Account.

I have received 6 fraudulent emails saying “reward confirmation” whereas I have not used any reward points.

I have tried to call aeroplan many times only to be bounced menus and long waits with no one answering the phone.

I am very concerned about breach of privacy and fraud – someone needs to call ne back urgently at 403-236-2282.
