Aeroplan will match all miles donated to this month’s featured charity: Engineers Without Borders!

ewbphoto2From September 19 to 25, Aeroplan will match all Miles donated to Engineers Without Borders Canada (EWB) up to 500,000! It’s an easy way to support an incredible Canadian charity that’s on the ground challenging the systems that cause global poverty.

Boris Martin, EWB’s CEO, says “Engineers Without Borders could not have the global impact we currently have without the support of Aeroplan members who generously donate Miles each year. Truly, you power the important work we do around the world.”

Renowned globally for their innovative approach to development and groundbreaking “Failure Report”, Engineers Without Borders is a movement of innovators determined to attack the systemic causes of inequality and poverty. Instead of digging wells and building bridges EWB invests in entrepreneurs who have game-changing ideas with local impact and global potential.

Entrepreneurs like the founders of Numida Technologies, which provide low cost mobile accounting software to empower local entrepreneurs to keep their books (and become eligible for loans). LishaBora, another partner, provides dairy farmers in rural Kenya with low-cost feed of an unprecedented quality.

ewbphoto1A key part of investing in partners like Numida and LishaBora is providing them with highly skilled embedded volunteers. Each year EWB recruits and sends over 40 volunteer fellows to partner initiatives in Zambia, Malawi, Ghana, Kenya and Uganda. They work alongside farmers, small business owners and community leaders to improve public services, enable entrepreneurs to grow their businesses and their impact and create lasting change.

By the numbers:

  • Aeroplan has supported Engineers Without Borders Canada since 2007.
  • EWB’s partnership with Aeroplan makes it possible to send over 40 EWB leaders to Africa each year to work to create systemic change. It also enables EWB to bring a group of 8-10 energetic innovators from our African partners to Canada each year.
  • To date, more than 49 million Aeroplan Miles have been generously donated to EWB by Aeroplan Members.
