Things to do in LA

Viewed from the Getty Center — one of its many architectural landmarks — Los Angeles is big, beautiful and complex. It sprawls from the Pacific Ocean to the San Gabriel Mountains and is home to 10 million people — many of them actors, artists, writers, filmmakers and musicians, or at least people aspiring to such! The blue water, green hills and downtown skyline loom in the distance. How do you explain LA — home of Bel Air and Watts, Mickey Mouse and James Ellroy, and men wearing yarmulkes and designer sunglasses? You don’t. You just put on your suntan lotion and shades and enjoy the City of Angels for what it is.

Aeroplan Members are pretty seasoned travelers.  We’ve asked them for their opinion when it comes to their top picks for where to stay, where to eat, and what to do. We’ve tallied all their votes and have been able to identify the best of Los Angeles, as voted by our Aeroplan Members.

Where to Stay
The Beverly Hilton

The Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City is known for its location and amazing access to all the entertainment and excitement LA has to offer.

Located right next to Universal Studios and a mile away from Hollywood, amusement park enthusiast and star searchers alike have the best of both worlds. If you’re more of a music buff, the Los Angeles Music Center is also very close to this amazing hotel.  The hotel rooms are spacious and provide guests with great views of the Hollywood Hills and CityWalk Hollywood in LA. The complimentary shuttle that runs every 15 minutes to the CityWalk and Universal Studios is an added bonus of the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City hotel. The Hilton brand Serenity Beds ensure you’ll have a fantastic sleep and be well rested for all that LA has to offer.  After a long day of walking around Universal or many of the other attractions, be sure to unwind at the pool or hot tub. It’s a must!

Where to Dine

Farmers_Market
Unlike other cities in our guide, our members’ favorite spot to dine in Los Angeles isn’t a particular restaurant but rather an outdoor eating and shopping area that boasts dozens upon dozens of culinary options. The Original Farmers Market was opened by farmers during the depression, and although there are no longer any farmers selling their produce, it’s a great place to find some of the best food in town. We’ve also heard a rumor that the Farmers Market is a great place to do some of the best people watching in LA. You’ll surely enjoy the endless options of great food and fresh inspirations created daily.  Be sure to check out their calendar for any live events that take may be taking place in and around the market.

What to Do
Disney

Los Angeles is jam packed with choices of entertainment; however Disney Land takes the top spot. What is there to say about a place that children and adults dream about visiting? Is it world class rides? Mingling with Mickey, Donald Duck, and other longtime favourite characters? Or is it just the positive energy that overwhelms the senses that cause even the most grizzled of folk to kick back and enjoy the celebration of imagination. Get your tickets in advance to help you save valuable time day of your visit,  and make sure to hit up those top rides as early in the morning as possible. Alternatively, ask one of the cast members about the FastPass process so that you can reserve the most popular rides for later during the day.  And most importantly, it’s best place to take your time. You’re not in a race when visiting one of the most magical places on earth, enjoy your stay, and visit the park for 2 days if need be!

you mentioned the view from the Getty Center, but didn’t mention it or any other real cultural things-to-do. Not that the theme parks aren’t cultural, but……

      Hi Neil,

The blog post is geared towards what the members voted on. Each of our city guides touches base on top things to do but by no means are they a catch-all. There are so many things to do in each city!!
We encourage our members to share any tips or insights they might have. In this case, we’d love to hear what you have to say about the Getty Center. :)
