Things to do in New York City

New York City is a fusion of top-tier sophistication and street-level indie cred. It’s home to over eight million residents, and another 40 million visitors stream in each year. But savvy travellers bypass the tourist traps to explore back alleys that were home to the city’s earliest trailblazers. The cobblestone sidewalks of SoHo, for instance, lure artists and sophisticates alike. Seen from the High Line — an abandoned rail line that’s now an elevated city park — views of the city’s man-made topography extend in every direction. And an excursion up the Hudson River provides the perfect rural getaway.

Aeroplan Members are pretty seasoned travelers.  We’ve asked them for their opinion when it comes to their top picks for where to stay, where to eat, and what to do. We’ve tallied all their votes and have been able to identify the best of New York, as voted by our Aeroplan Members.

Where to Stay

We’ve asked our Aeroplan Members which Aeroplan Partner Hotels they prefer to stay with when travelling to New York City and they have made their voices heard.

An official New York City landmark, the Waldorf Astoria Towers provides its visitors with beautifully styled rooms where you can kick up your feet in a lavish fashion. The rooms are known for their beauty and unique luxurious style and they are a step above most other  New York City hotels. The service provided by the staff on hand is of the highest quality and guests can expect nothing less from the Waldorf Astoria staff.  The stunning lobby houses the famous clock from the 1893 Chicago World Fair and is considered one of the most famous meeting places in the city. This 42 story Art-Deco hotel is located in Manhattan and is in close proximity to the Museum of Modern Art, the Rockefeller Center, Broadway Theatre District, Madison Square Garden, and so much more! Even if staying in for the night is more your style, the Waldorf Astoria Towers boasts five fabulous restaurants, the world-class Guerlain Spa , and a 2,500-square-foot  24 hour fitness center for those who never miss a workout.

What to Do

CentralPark

Central Park, perhaps one of the most famous urban parks in the world, provides a great  escape for those looking to embrace nature and step away from the concrete jungle.  With over 35 million visitors annually, the park stretches across several blocks (from 59th street to 110th street). The park offers extensive walking paths, carriage rides, boating, and houses wildlife at the Central Park Zoo. In the summer months, be sure to catch “Shakespeare in the Park” at the outdoor amphitheater and many other summer festivals.  There are hundreds of things one can see and do any given day while casually strolling through Central Park. I see lots of people have commented above on how this article being out of date at various points over the last several years. Well it is more than 2 years out of date again. By the way you owe me a good pizza in New York. I got excited about trying Grimaldi’s pizzeria, but the link is a dead end and from searching Grimaldi’s on line they appear to be a chain now with places all of the US but not in New York city.
