Earning: Tips for New Members

In a short time, new member Frazer Kerby has become a pro at accumulating miles, and you can too

Apr. 26, 2010

As a new Aeroplan Member, Frazer Kerby didn’t yet appreciate how many miles he could earn. But he quickly learned. Here’s how he mastered accumulation through a coalition of partners, and earned enough for a round-trip ticket to the UK much sooner than he’d thought possible.

Aeroplan Member Frazer Kerby enjoys the sand and sea in Brighton, UK.

EARLY DISCOVERIES

“When you get your card in the mail, study the welcome kit that comes along with it. Become familiar with the [Aeroplan] website, it educates you on where you can accumulate miles. [As a new member], I didn’t realize there were so many companies that offer miles, including a choice of hotels. Sign up for the emails and register your details [on your profile page] online. [It was through these emails that] we found out about the Primus home phone offer.”

ON TRACK

“My brother-in-law told me about [the financial cards that earn me Aeroplan Miles], so I switched over. Now, instead of buying groceries on debit, I use my card. Also, using the ALL TRANSACTIONS page [on aeroplan.com] is a great way to see where you’re at and where you need to get.”

EVERYDAY EARNINGS

“I use Esso to guzzle my miles, and I have Primus home phone service. We’ve got a Sobeys about a 15-minute drive from home, so we use our Club Sobeys card [and convert the Club Sobeys points into Aeroplan Miles]. Everybody needs to buy groceries, you might as well get the added bonus of miles. We’ve also accumulated miles through Tropicana and Quaker. It’s right on the box. You can’t miss it. And if you’re purchasing those products anyway, it’s a bonus that you can earn.”

I booked a return flight on Air Canada from Tokyo to Winnipeg before registering as an Aeroplan member. How do I get the miles credited to my new (I just registered today) Aeroplan account? Thank you.

      Hi Efobi,
You would be credited your miles once you have flown. You can add your Aeroplan Number to your flight info at the time of check-in.

      Thanks!

On your on-line registration site, in order to set up my profile, I had to provide my address; and yet, it says that the address is optional – why is that? I couldn’t set up my profile unless I did provide my address.
    Please respond. Thank you.

      Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for reaching out with your question. We do require an address to register new members into the Aeroplan program; the reason that fields are marked as optional is because we have members all over the country as well as Internationally and so our site is designed to accommodate addresses of varying forms. Hope that helps!
      Thanks!
