Why not Travel to New Zealand – Where you Should go!

There is something magical about New Zealand.  Never mind the fact that the Lord of the Rings was filmed there, it’s just such a majestic country full of picture perfect scenery and some of the most friendly people in the world!

Composed of 3 islands, North Island, South Island and Stewart Island, New Zealand’s most popular cities include Wellington (found on the lowest tip of the North Island), Christchurch-Canterbury (found mid way up the South Island) and Auckland (found to the north of the North Island).

In general, you can’t go wrong with traveling to any part of New Zealand’s major cities and small towns equally have something to offer.

Wellington

New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington is known as the country’s arts and cultural center.  Its restaurants are also some of the best in the country, and even though the population is relatively small in Wellington, there is a surprising number of dining options. Wellington’s restaurants are all relatively close to each other making it very easy to visit all of them.

Here are a few things to do while in Wellington:

  1. Museum of New Zealand (Te Papa Tongarewa)
The Museum sits on the Wellington waterfront and is one of the country’s icons.  It’s an interactive museum which really give visitors a greater understanding for the country.  The best thing – the Museum is free! (some charges may apply to short term exhibits).
  2. Chow Restaurant
A pan-Asian restaurant which is a must visit for those who love a little twist to their food and are passionate about it!  You must try one of their yummy drinks like “The Dove” which includes Tequila, ruby red grapefruit juice, fresh lime and sparkling mineral water!
  3. Wellington Underground Market
The Wellington Underground Market is a great place for gifts and handmade crafts that will delight any one! Buy one of a kind items from local artists and go beyond the typical coffee mug souvenir.

Auckland

Auckland, unlike many major cities, is less than a half an hour away from some of the most amazing beaches, best hiking trails and gorgeous islands.  You can enjoy the local marine life with locally run eco-safaris.  If you’re lucky, you’ll see bottle nose dolphins and whales in their natural habitat.

No visit to Auckland is complete without some serious sailing time. Locals are proud of their yachts and you can enjoy them by land or by sea.

Christchurch-Canterbury

Beautiful Christchurch is a definite must visit while in New Zealand. Christchurch is a more relaxed city compared to Aucklandand Wellington.  Christchurch is only hours away from world class ski hills, bungee jumping, thermal pools, and surfing!  Located in the  Canterbury region, the wildlife and scenery can be appreciated by everyone.

Although the city was hit with a major earthquake in February 2011, most tour operators and activities have re-opened and they are all welcoming tourist with open arms!  It’s best to visit the Christchurch website for traveler info regarding closed off areas.
