Layovers are a part of airline travel. At some point, most of us encounter at least one layover. What you do during that time will define your layover as “long” or just another part of the journey.
Curious to know what exactly our members do during a layover, we asked them on Facebook and Twitter. The response to such a simple questions was tremendously diverse. From playing games to getting a manicure-pedicure, our members know how to enjoy a few hours at the airport.
Here are the top 10 things to during your layover
- Free Wi-Fi access in the Airport – this helps a lot, and as one of our Facebook fans said “Just like at home, you lose track of time on the computer and before you know it the layover time is over and it’s time to board the next plane.”
- Reading a good book or magazine
- Having a meal at a sit-down restaurant in the Airport – This helps pass the time on a layover as you can really enjoy your meal. (Bonus if there is Wi-fi in the restaurant!)
- Relaxing in the lounge – Award winning lounges like the Maple Leaf Lounge are definitely travel perks and travelers enjoy the snacks, showers and entertainment.
- People Watching/Air Plane Watching – surprisingly high on the list of things to do during a layover, people and air plane watching kills a lot of time! Sometimes just taking in your surroundings will help make your layover fly right by.
- Taking in a massage, manicure or pedicure – this is my personal favourite item on the list. One member said “Life is so busy that if I can squeeze a pedicure in between flights I am happy!”
- Visit the City – This applies to longer layovers, I wouldn’t suggest this one if your airport is really far from the city or if your layover is less than 4 hours. Be sure there is lots of time for incidents (traffic, long lines).
- Play Games – We all have games on our mobiles, but brining along a portable checkers or card game while traveling will certainly help pass the time if you’re traveling with someone else.
- Talk to People/Meet Other Travelers – Chances are, the person sitting next to you in the waiting area is as bored as you. Having a friendly conversation with a stranger never hurt anyone, and who knows, they could be famous!
- Taking pictures – there’s nothing like walking around an airport and taking pictures of the different art, kiosks and surroundings. The possibilities are limitless on this one!
So those are the top 10 things to do during your layover, did your top pick make the list? Are you surprised that wi-fi is the number 1 things people want at the airport?
Hopefully our top 10 list gives you inspiration the next time you’re “stuck in an airport!”
